Happy New Year!

It's been so good to see your smiling faces and to hear everyone's updates from your Christmas cards. Thank you so much! We're so blessed to have you as family and friends! So before the year takes off too quickly- here's a quick e-update from the Despain family.

Scott is settling into the idea of a sabbatical for the Spring semester. Jen's got a honey-do list just in case he needs some diversion from his research and writing. He'll also be making a pre-site visit to San Jose, Costa Rica some time in the Spring to scope out the situation for the study abroad semester he'll be directing this summer. He continues on as counselor in the bishopric.

Jen is managing the home and teaching part-time. Life at home is never dull with teenagers and young adults in and around the house. We could easily film a couple of segments for a talk show with the drama going on here! She'll be released from the RS presidency this weekend... who knows what's around the corner there! She's trying to behave in case Scott decides to take a traveling companion with him. She's often heard humming that great Burt Bacharach tune, "Do you know the way to San Jose?"

Jeffrey had a very successful semester - so much so that mom and dad get to pay next semester's tuition -that was the deal! He's serving as Elder's Quorum president in the student ward and is keeping busy socially. He'll be involved in an internship at Georgetown University this summer. We're excited for him. We plan to visit him and have him take us on a backstage tour of wherever he ends up.

Ainsley keeps us smiling and laughing. She's having the time of her life serving her mission on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. If you haven't already, keep up with her adventures at http://sisterainsleymarie.blogspot.com

Elena is tackling her junior year. She's dealing with LOTS of homework and projects and the phrase "I hate my life..." is often heard grumbled under her breath. She has been able to fit in a little bit of socializing with boys to put a smile on her face which we love to see! She earned her YW Recognition this past year and serves as the secretary in her Laurel class.

Dallin has had an extremely busy year - completing his requirements for his Eagle Scout and enough merit badges for 2 palms. He's johnny on the spot when it comes to plumbing and he'll even signal important messages for you! So, if the power goes out and your texting option fails he's good for at least a 30 character message! He is always found with a rhythm in his hands even though he played baritone in Marching Band this year! GO BLUE! He's serving as a counselor in his Teacher's Quorum and very reluctantly attends stake dances. :)

Thanks for sharing your lives with us and here's to a wonderful start to a brand new year!

Love,

The Despain Family
